DM is actively recruiting a chemist for its Boca Raton FL, research facility. The chemist will be responsible for using
polymer and organic synthetic techniques to 1) develop quality control techniques for various ion-conducting
polymers, 2) develop synthetic routes for CO2 conversion to high volume
chemicals, polymers, fuels and food product, and 3) to do other tasks as
assigned by the chief technology officer or his designate.
Education required: Degree in organic chemistry or related field with polymer
synthesis experience, Master and Bachelor degree are preferred
Specific tasks include:
Modify, synthesis, and customize ion-conducting polymer membranes for
fuel-cell and water and CO2 electrolyzer technology.
Explore different synthetic routes for CO2 conversion to high volume
chemicals, polymers, fuels and food product. Investigate and develop
suitable reaction conditions and reactor for large scale production.
Analyze the polymer membrane, organic compounds and other compounds
to determine chemical and physical properties, composition, molecular
weight, viscosities, structure, relationships, and reactions, by utilizing
NMR, GPC, UV, FT-IR, SAXS, TGA/DSC, EIS, HPLC, GC-MS, and other
spectroscopy techniques.
Compile and analyze test information to determine process or equipment
operating efficiency and to diagnose malfunctions.
Confer with scientists and engineers to conduct analyses of research
projects, interpret test results, or develop nonstandard tests.
Write technical reports and prepare standards and specifications for
processes, facilities, products, or tests.
Select and wear protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes,
glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and or hard hats
The chemist needs to have the following knowledge/skills
Chemistry, including a specialization in polymer and organic synthesis —
Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of
substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they
undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger
signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
Time Management — Managing one's own time.
Communication skills— Talking to others to convey information effectively.
Complex Problem Solving — Identifying complex problems and reviewing
related information to develop and evaluate options and implement
solutions.
Candidates with experience synthesizing membranes for fuel cells, electrolyzers,
or other electrochemical systems are particularly encouraged to apply. All
applicants must have permission to work in the US before they start
working.
